Chennai formerly known as Madras is the capital city of the state of Tamil Nadu. Chennai is the fourth most populated metro. Located on the Coromandel Coast of the Bay of Bengal, Chennai city has a population over 8 million people.
The city was established in the 1700 by the British, who developed it into a major urban centre and naval base. After independence, it had become an important administrative centre, as the capital of the Madras state, which later renamed Tamilnadu.
Chennai's economy has a broad industrial base in the car, technology, hardware manufacturing, and healthcare industries. The city is India's second largest exporter of software, IT and IT based services. A major chunk of India's car manufacturing industry is based here and it is too called as the Detroit of South Asia.
Chennai hosts a large cultural event, the annual Madras Music Season, which includes performances by hundreds of artists. The city has a vibrant theatre scene and is an important centre for the Bharatanatyam, a classical dance form. The Tamil film industry, one of the largest film industries in India, is based in the city; the soundtracks of the films dominate its music scene.
 The city has been sacred with the assets of art and journalism. It is well-known for its diverse artistic actions, showcasing the performing arts such as jazz, melody and play at its finest. Tamil journalism is very wealthy in content and preaches antique ethics and standards.

The city is linked to all major cities and towns by trains. CHENNAI has two major railway stations. Chennai Central, which associates north and west India and Egmore, which connects south India.
