BHOPAL CITY OF LAKES AND HILLS





Bhopal is the capital of the state of Madhya Pradesh and the administrative headquarter of Bhopal District and Bhopal Division OF W.C.RLY. Bhopal is known as the city of LAKES as its landscape is dotted with a number of natural lakes. Bhopal is also one of the greenest cities of India.
Historically, Bhopal was capital of the Bhopal state.
The city attracted international attention due to the tragic Bhopal Gas tragedy, when the Union Carbide plant, which manufactured pesticides, leaked deadly methyl isocyanide gas during the night of 2/3December, 1984.

This gas leak caused the worst industrial disaster in history. There was a massive loss of human life. Thousands others were rendered sick and have been facing chronic health problems the then state administration did nothing.
The soil and ground water, near the factory site, has been polluted due to toxic contaminants are said to be still leaking from the factory. The GOVT. of INDIA, however, maintains that no such pollution has taken place or that any such toxins are even present at the site. But one plus point is there with a full fledged hospital the BHMRC having all modern facilities.

Since the disaster, Bhopal has been a center of protests and campaigns which have been joined by many people from across the globe. The Indian Space Research Organization established its facility here Bhopal would be the second city to have an All India Institute of Medical Sciences campus after Delhi.
Bhopal is an old city dates back to (1000–1050)The city was originally known as Bhojpal named after  king Bhoj who founded the city and the dam ('pal') that he is said to have constructed to form the lakes surrounding Bhopal. Navab of Bhopal was the last to sign merger. Though India achieved Independence in August 1947, the ruler of Bhopal acceded to India only on 1 May 1949.refugees from Pakistan were accommodated in West Bhopal Cities, Bairagarh Sub-Area, a western suburb of Bhopal. Bhopal state was integrated into the state of Madhya Pradesh, and Bhopal was declared as its capital.
Bhopal is situated at the height of 499mts.In the central part of India in the Vindhya
