Kuala-Lumpur is the capital of Malaysia with a population of about 1.6 million people who live in appxt. 244sq.kms. It has its origins since 1850. There were tin mines and it was under Japanese occupation during WWII.KL is the seat of Parliament. Since 1990 KL played host to many sporting activities and events commonwealth games and formula1 word champion ship. Famous twin towers The Petronas Twin Towers are symbol of Malaysia's prosperity and development. The Malaysian King lives here, besides it is financial and economic and business centre of Malaysia. KL is rated as the Alfa world city and is the only world class city in Malaysia.
Infrastructural development, airport development, multimedia super corridor increase its economy further. Local and foreign and other financial institutions help country's profile. Education and Health services are developed with many universities and private colleges and institutions and hospitals and other health related services attract many students and tourists local and foreign as well.
Tourism is another big industry and KL is fifth most visited city and major tourist attraction in the world. Several hotels and hotel chains have their presence in the city. The major tourist destinations in Kuala Lumpur include the Dataran Merdeka (the Independence Square), the House of Parliament, the Istana Budaya, the Istana Negara (National Palace), the Kuala Lumpur Tower, the Muzium Negara (National Museum), the Putra World Trade Centre, the Tugu Negara(National Monument) and mosques such as the Masjid Jamek, the Masjid Negara (National Mosque) and the Federal Territory Mosque.
Other tourist attractions include the Aquaria KLCC, the Batu Caves, the Makam Pahlawan (National Mausoleum), the National Science Centre, Petaling Street, the Royal Selangor pewter visitor centre, theZoo Negara (National Zoo), and events such as Malay cultural centres, the Chinese cultural festivals at the Thean Hou Temple and the Thaipusam procession at the Sri Mahamariamman Temple. The Golden Triangle, the commercial hub of the city, contains the Petronas Twin Towers and has a distinctive nightlife.

There are several newspapers, TV, almost all word famous Channels, and media houses have their offices and facilities in KL.Transportation in KL is well developed, road, rail, air and by sea, driving is main mode of transportation. KL international airport is aviation hub; other air ports are also there. Monorail, rapid light rail transit and other commuter train services are available. Bus and taxi services are also available. In KL, most taxis have distinctive white and red liveries. Kuala Lumpur is one of the major ASEAN cities with taxis extensively running on natural gas. Taxis can be hailed from taxi stands or from the streets. Nevertheless, taxis are known to charge high rates for foreigners.
Kuala Lumpur is served by PORT KLANG, located about 64 km (40 mi) southwest of the city. The port is the largest and busiest in the country. Malaysia has very good relations with other countries; several countries have their offices and consulates in KL.
Visitors are advised to dress properly and avoid touts, take all precautions for your safety and respect locals and their systems you will enjoy your stay, search a little and plan carefully.
